He holds his right hand in the symbol of preaching and sits on a high lotus pedestal encircled by auspicious clouds tinged with various colors. Above is a canopy of jewels below a cloud. The two great disciples of Shâkyamuni appear in front. The older figure on the right is Mahâkâśyapa, while the other is Ānanda. They appear in reverence before the viewer. The composition here almost fills the entire scroll. Various techniques were used according to the motifs represented. There is a great deal of variety in the detail of the needlework, as well as in the coloring and techniques. &*  佛教始祖釋迦牟尼佛,雙目微闔,手結說法印記,神態和煦,端坐於蓮花高臺之上,五彩祥雲四周繚繞,頂上華蓋纓絡莊嚴。壇前釋尊的兩大弟子肅立兩側,年齡稍長,以頭陀(苦行)聞名的是摩訶迦葉。年輕品貌出眾且多聞利智的是阿難。   是幅刺繡,以五彩繡線,通幅滿繡填地,不見空白留底,是其最大特色。運用各種不同色線,按圖運針,視圖案所需,繡線有劈線極細的,亦有粗鬆的。再以長短針法,橫直等距針法,或參差交替針法,或平繡或盤繡,逐步完成全部圖樣。全幅色彩明亮艷麗,但艷而不俗,技法精工,是清繡中之佳作。是軸原品名為本院所藏清繡佛像十三軸之一。 &* Shakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, is shown here with semi-closed eyes as if in a serene state of bliss.
